Oh Really?

Call me an Amber player, but when I read a sentence like "The new edition of Nobilis needed a stronger combat system" (in R. Sean Borgstrom's fourth installment of her RPGnet series, my immediate reaction is - why?

now that's a good one.
yes, an Amber player.

otoh, I don't know what the first edition combat sysystem is. maybe he was saying he got it wrong the first time, and stronger means better.

Actually, I only happened to catch an oblique reference to it, but the creator of Nobilis is actually a creatrix.

Not sure what the R actually stands for, though.

As far as the combat...well, R. Sean's point, I think is valid--physical conflict is a staple of the genre--or the potential for same. Admittedly in a game where shooting the sun out of the sky, or drinking a river dry are possible, combat is a rather odd bird, but sometimes its just satisfying to punch Brand (or in this case an Excrucian) in the face. And so you need a combat system in at least the potential sense, even if it is rarely used.
