Shadow Magic
In infinite shadow one can find numberless magic disciplines. Within a given shadow, a particular mage may be invincible. However, it is hard for non-Amberites to travel between shadows - most of us never manage it. And the shadow mage who does manage to escape his own world often finds, to his chagrin, that he ends up in a world where his magic doesn't work.
Some Patternmasters may even be able to alter the rules of the shadow-mage's home shadow so that his magic doesn't work any more. This may not be an ideal response: you may have come to a particular shadow for reasons intimately bound up with its magical nature. Alter the rules and you may destroy what you were seeking. Some will tell you the best way to deal with a powerful shadow mage is to leave. This too may not be ideal if you are in search of something specific - you might simply find yourself confronting other shadows of the same mage.
Pros and Cons of Shadow Magic
The nice thing about being an Amberite is that "the shadows lie for" you. If you've learned a shadow magic discipline, you will be able to use it in shadows where non-Amberites could not. However, shadow magic definitely won't work in Amber itself.
Relatively few Everway characters become mages in "normal" Everway campaigns. Given the comparative value of the major powers, it would be surprising if anyone chose shadow magic in Amberway II. But if the idea intrigues you, proceed to the Magic page. And you'll definitely want to read about the Magic Formula.
