Brand

Okay! It's a "Brand Returns" campaign! But this is not your father's Brand. This is a very old man of great dignity who claims to want nothing more than to die at home, a man who is so tired of the wars and strife that his fiendish plan for getting back to Amber included coming right out and asking to be allowed to return. Could it even be true? See The Saga Begins to get the flavor of Our Employer.

We did mention that the PCs all worked for the man, didn't we? And that the best evidence is that he's the one Amberite who wants to save the Thousand Worlds?

Brand may have escaped from the dungeons of Castle Amber after the dragon attack. If he was ever in the dungeons, that is.

Corinne

Long green hair and a crown set with pearls, Corinne gives signs of getting along poorly with her husband, Martin of Amber. Some PCs think she works a little too hard at giving such signs. She fostered Fisher's and Delve's Pattern initiation, telling them that they needed to return to the Thousand Worlds to find the three artifacts that could release Amber from its prison and save the Thousand Worlds - the same three artifacts that Brand already said could destroy the Thousand Worlds.

She claims also that Llewella is part of the faction that wants the Thousand Worlds' destruction. Hm.

Fiona

...very old and wrinkled, with white hair, wearing a silver tiara and a lavender gown. She has a heavy veil on...

Hides the empty eye sockets, courtesy of Brother Julian (RIP, apparently) for her part in the redheads' plot against the throne. Fiona described her blinding as an act of kindness:

"When we're being NASTY, you'll know what to expect: pick out a nice coffin. When we're being MERCIFUL is when you should worry. We all have it in us."

Allies? Llewella guided her into the banquet that introduced the PCs to Amber proper. And the PC Seeker of Lost Knowledge has promised to lead her to a sphere in the Thousand Worlds where her sight can be restored in exchange for the secret of making trumps. (The secret is that Seeker needs some serious element increases. See "Pattern Mysteries on the Magic page.)

Fiona initiated Seeker and Turtle into the mystery of the Pattern, and prepared them for their successful Pattern walks.

Llewella

a somewhat younger woman (than Fiona) whose green hair shows streaks of grey. She favors green brocade gowns that match the color her hair might have been when she was younger, highlighted with deep purple.

No one can get a handle on Llewella's loyalties, which may be the way she likes it. She gifted Delve with an extremely useful set of keys, then walked out of dinner in Rebma as if offended by something he said. Tension with Corinne was evident in Rebma, and she probably has no love for Martin either. Is Captain Rein her lover? He was certainly removed from command right before Delve and Fisher were due to appear at the Keep on their way out of the Thousand Worlds, as if Martin thought him unreliable.

Corinne claims that Llewella is one of the elders who wishes to destroy the Thousand Worlds, and also says she fears Llewella's power - namely, her gift for magical eavesdropping.

Llewella still lives in Rebma rather than Amber.

Martin I - King of Amber

is a tall, blonde fellow, with a full beard and long hair. His crown is a tall affair, studded with emeralds, with long pointy spikes. No PC has had a good word for him. Not that he's had much good to say to us. He commuted the death sentence of Prince Brand to life imprisonment, claiming to need even him to deal with certain unnamed threats to Amber. His first act toward Brand's retainers was to send them on what they thought was a suicide mission into Arden after the lost Behemoth.

Allies? His public relationship with his wife is formal and lacking in warmth. He may have been heard engaging in a flanking vendetta against Llewella - disallowing the marriage of a member of the Rein family. He may be dead in the wake of the dragon attack, or he may have trumped out, possibly to Rebma.

Medraut, Alain, and Captain Rein

These three Amberites serve the Royal Family in different capacities. Captain Rein, almost certainly the most important man listed, seems to serve Princess Llewella in an intimate capacity indeed. Normally the commander of the Keep that guards the sea passage from the Thousand Worlds, Rein impressed several of the heroes with his general decency and courage.

Sir Alain Maldemer is Martin's courtier and briefed the heroes for what their supposed suicide mission to the forest Arden. He did not impress several of the heroes with his general decency and courage, but he is reputed to be an excellent swordsman.

Medraut, a castle valet, was kind and helpful if a bit stuffy.

Did any of these men survive the dragon's destruction of Castle Amber? Watch this space.
